The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) is an autonomous Institute
under the umbrella of the Department of Atomic Energy of the Government
of India. It is the premier research institute of India doing basic research in physics, chemistry, biology,
mathematics and computer science. TIFR has campuses in Mumbai, Pune and
Bangalore and research facilities in various other places in India. Since 2002, TIFR has also been recognised as a deemed univerisity by the University Grants Commission of India. It has masters and doctorate programmes in various sciences and mathematics.
