Mumbai

Mumbai, located on the west coast of the state of Maharashtra, is the commercial and entertainment capital of India. Formerly known as Bombay, it is one of the most populous cities of the world. Mumbai has attracted migrants from all over India because of the immense employment opportunities and the relatively high standard of living, making the city a blend of various communities and cultures.

The Mumbai Suburban Railway is the principal mode of mass transport. The system carries more than 6.1 million commuters on a daily basis. Public buses run by the BEST cover almost all parts of the metropolis.

The city is home to India's Hindi film and television industry, known as Bollywood. Mumbai is also one of the rare cities to accommodate a national park, the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, within its city limits. It encompasses an area of 104 square kilometers with an estimated 800 types of flowering plants; 284 kinds of birds; 5,000 species of insects; 36 types of mammals; 50 species of reptiles and 150 species of butterflies.
