National Initiative on Undergraduate Sciences (NIUS) PHYSICS Programme 2016-2017

 

Announcement for 13th Batch (2016 – 2017)

 

NIUS (physics) programme is designed to provide extended nurture and guidance to undergraduate students in Physics. In this programme students attend nurture camps organized by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR, Mumbai, and work on proto-research projects during their vacations over a period of two years (June 2016 – June 2018). Applications are invited for NIUS (PHYSICS) programme for 13th batch (2016 – 2017) from FIRST YEAR UNDERGRADUATE students who are pursuing i) 3 year BSc or BSc(H) ii) 4 year BS iii) 5 year MS or MSc (integrated) and iv) 4/5 year BTech, BE any branch (with interest in Physics) with at least 55% marks or equivalent in their Class X and Class XII examination. First year students who have participated in the physics or astronomy Olympiad orientation cum selection camp (OCSC) at HBCSE or have received KVPY fellowship are encouraged to apply.

 

The first camp will be held at HBCSE, Mumbai, tentatively during June 8 - 17, 2016. This camp will be an exposure and enrichment camp where leading scientists will offer short courses of a pedagogical nature on core topics in physics. There will also be a short laboratory course based on “Experimental Problem Solving” approach. In addition, there will be project related enrichment lectures/courses. The students selected at the end of the first camp will carry out project work with mentors during the subsequent camps.

Checklist for Application (No E-mail applications):

  1. Application form or its equivalent (on plain paper), duly filled.

  2. Self-attested photocopies of your Std. X and Std. XII mark sheets.

  3. Two duly filled confidential assessment forms from teachers whom you had an interaction during last one year. Send them in individually sealed and signed (by the teachers) envelopes along with your application.

  4. Bonafide certificate of affiliation as a first year student from your college / institute.

  5. A 250 word write up to explain your interest in the NIUS (PHYSICS) programme.

  6. Two self addressed envelopes (without postage stamps) of size about 10 cm × 25 cm.

 

Last date for receipt of completed applications is March 1, 2016. Send your completed application consisting of all the above mentioned documents to the following address so as to reach HBCSE, Mumbai on or before March 1, 2016.

 

Please write clearly “NIUS (PHYSICS) 13.1” on the envelope.
